Celebrating Earth Day the Learning Tree Way: Inspired by Ms. Danelle

At The Learning Tree, we believe that even the smallest hands can make a big impact—and this Earth Day, our hearts are full seeing just how much our community is doing to care for our planet.

This year’s Earth Day celebration is inspired by a wonderful spark of creativity from Ms. Danelle, our Preschool 2 teacher at Learning Tree West. She brought forward simple, meaningful ways to reduce, reuse, and rethink everyday choices—and her ideas have blossomed into a center-wide celebration!

🌱 Eco-Friendly Swaps
We kicked off Earth Day with a fresh perspective on the items we use every day. Families received an Eco-Friendly Swap List, featuring smart alternatives like reusable paper towels, silicone cupcake liners, bamboo cotton rounds, and biodegradable dental floss. These small changes add up to a big difference, and we’re so proud to see families embracing greener habits at home.

🖍️ Homemade Recycled Crayons
We’ve also been collecting old, broken crayons that were headed for the trash and giving them new life! Thanks to your donations, we’re melting and remolding them into fun, colorful crayon shapes to be shared in our classrooms. It’s a creative reminder that recycling can be both fun and functional—and we can’t wait for our students to enjoy these one-of-a-kind treasures.

*Thank you Ms. Emily from LT-Howell!*

♻️ Household Item Donations
This week, donation bins have been filling up with gently used household items—everything from purses and briefcases to small kitchen appliances and unused hair tools. These items will be repurposed or donated, extending their life and reducing waste. Thank you for helping us turn unwanted items into opportunities!

🌼 Homemade Bug Repellent
And on Earth Day itself, our incredible teachers will be whipping up homemade bug repellent during their lunch breaks! Using just essential oils and water, this simple DIY is both eco-conscious and effective—and it’s another wonderful way we’re modeling sustainability in everyday life.

🌍 Green Living is a Core Value
At The Learning Tree, teaching children to care for the Earth isn’t just a once-a-year lesson—it’s part of who we are. Educating children and families about sustainable living is woven into our daily routines. Whether it’s composting in the classroom, reusing materials for creative play, or having conversations about reducing waste, we are constantly reinforcing the importance of caring for our environment. It’s a mindset we proudly nurture in every age group, helping raise thoughtful, responsible citizens who understand the value of protecting our planet. We’re proud to be a center where green living is not just celebrated—it’s taught, modeled, and lived every day.

💚 A Special Thank You
All of these initiatives were sparked by Ms. Danelle’s passion for the planet, and we’re so grateful for her thoughtful leadership. Her ideas remind us that one person can truly inspire a community. Thank you, Ms. Danelle, for helping us grow greener together!

As Earth Day approaches, we hope these small actions ripple into lasting habits—not just for a day, but for a lifetime. Together, we’re raising a generation that values and protects the world around them.

Happy Earth Day from all of us at The Learning Tree! 🌿
