Staff Highlight! Kaitlynn Suggs, LT North

Hello! My name is Kaitlynn Suggs and I am the lead teacher in TPS at North! I have been with The Learning Tree North for about two and half years!  I started working at the Learning Tree as a toddler teacher and made the move to TPS this fall!

I am not originally from Michigan; I grew up in Southeastern Ohio. I then went away to college at West Virginia University in Morgantown, WV. West Virginia soon became my second home as my husband and I finished undergraduate and beyond.

I always knew that I wanted to be teacher from a young age. One of my youngest memories was getting to tag along with my Grammy and her kindergarten class. I got to watch her engage her students and make everything seem so special. I didn’t always want to work in early childhood though. When I started college I was hoping to be a high school teacher. After getting a summer job as a camp counselor at a local YMCA I discovered I loved working with younger children, so that fall I switched majors. Then I got my first job as floater at local childcare center and I fell in love with preschoolers and toddlers. After I graduated I took my first teaching job as a two’s teacher and I finally found where I wanted to be! I then worked in different childcare centers as my husband went through different parts of his medical school. With each change of classrooms I found a different love and appreciation for different ages from toddlers to preschool.

Fast forward to 2017 when my husband was matched into his residency here in Michigan. Moving to a whole different state with no job, no child care for my son Noah, and leaving behind all the friends and family back home was scary. I went on several interviews where either it wasn’t a good fit for me or for Noah. Then I came to the Learning Tree and I found a place for both of us! Now that I have both of my children at the Learning Tree I can’t imagine being anywhere else!
