Potty Training Support and Readiness

Potty training is an exciting milestone in a child’s development, but it can also bring about questions and uncertainties. In our Transitional Preschool classrooms, we’re here to guide and support you through this process, ensuring that every child progresses at their own pace. Remember, it’s completely normal for children in the same classroom to be at different stages of readiness, and that’s okay!

To help you determine whether your child might be ready to start potty training, here are some key signs to watch for:

Signs Your Child May Be Ready for Potty Training

  1. Fewer Wet Diapers: You’ve noticed that your child is staying dry for longer periods, indicating better bladder control.
  2. Ability to Undress Themselves: Your child can pull down their pants or undress with minimal assistance, a helpful skill for independent bathroom use.
  3. Interest in Others’ Bathroom Habits: They’re curious about you or others going to the bathroom, showing they’re beginning to understand the concept.
  4. Predictable Bathroom Times: Your child is going to the bathroom at consistent times during the day, which can make establishing a routine easier.
  5. Expressing a Desire to Try: Your child verbalizes that they want to use the potty or shows enthusiasm for giving it a try.

How to Use This Guide

If you recognize these signs in your child, it may be time to start focusing on potty training. For children who aren’t showing these signs yet, there’s no need to worry. Every child develops at their own pace, and readiness will come with time.

Feel free to refer to this checklist when evaluating your child’s readiness. By identifying where a child’s focus should be, we can create a positive and supportive potty-training experience for everyone involved.
